Los Angeles-based Maani Edwards recently joined the Royalty Network Music Publishing team as Head of Urban, A&R, and reports to Frank Liwall, President of the Royalty Network. Edwards acts as a liaison between songwriters, managers, publishers and record labels. His responsibilities include finding hit songs, putting songwriters together for collaborations, placing beats with rap artists, as well as signing writers. “I will be the eyes and ears on the streets and in the studios,” says Edwards.
Royalty Network publishing signees include an array of songwriters, producers and artists such as Omas Keith (Frank Ocean), Brian “Bizzy” Holleman (The Weeknd), Celetia Marti (the Underdogs), Afro Jack, Jay Sean, Lil’ Mo, rapper Danny Brown and hundreds more around the world.
As the new guy at Roy Net, “I’m looking to sign talent that can compete,” says Edwards. “It’s always been about great songs, period. My focus is on publishing, but we also have a label, Krian Music, in which we’re funneling music too as well.”
Edwards comes to Royalty Network from Universal Music Publishing Group (1999–2010), where his last position was Vice President of Urban Creative Affairs. While at UMPG, Edwards was instrumental in the signings of Jill Scott, Jim Jones, Mannie Fresh and 50 Cent.
Maani tells Amalgamation, “I really like where I see music and artists going. It’s in a place where artists are able to take more control of their careers; become more independent. Due to social media, and resources like You Tube, I’m glad to see artists reaching out to fans around the world.”
