Kirk Franklin Talks The King’s Men Tour

Live Nation has partnered with Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Donnie McClurkin and Israel Houghton to present THE KING’S MEN tour, kicking off Sunday, September 16, at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, AZ, and culminating in Brooklyn, NY, at Barclays Center on Sunday, October 14. The tour initially hits 15 cities in all.

Kirk Franklin recently told Amalgamation Magazine, “I’m always looking for the next challenge, for something crazy and for something new to do. I’m trying to climb that next mountain and find a way to do the impossible.  I reached out to this incredible group of guys, and immediately they agreed to be a part of this production.”

Franklin, Sapp, McClurkin and Houghton are easily four of the most respected and successful men in Contemporary Gospel Music. As a unit their collective of Grammy and Stellar Awards, along with record sales is second to none. As individuals, these gentlemen have packed in concert houses around the country, where they have each received top billing. The uniqueness of the King’s Men Tour is that there is no official headliner.

“With this show there is no opening act,” says Franklin. “We’re all on stage at the same time. There are duets, music transitions, various collaborations—the night is going to be an event you’ve never seen before. You’re going to see four cats doing it together with crazy music production—full band, a horn section, even a DJ. It’s almost like a big tent revival.”

It’s been a busy period for Franklin. Both he and Donnie McClurkin recently wrapped up production for Season 5 of BET’s Sunday Best (where Franklin is an executive producer). After the tour, they will be gearing up for Season 6. “We’re really excited and thankful about the success of Sunday Best,” Franklin says. “It’s really grown in its audience and people are in love with the brand.”

With a highly-anticipated tour, his latest album Hello Fear, a new ‘Essential’ greatest hits compilation, and a popular TV show under his belt, Franklin says, “I just want people to know how humble and thankful I am for the on-going support they have given me. People have so many options in these days and times- and when they make time to support what you’re doing, I just want people to know how appreciative I am.”
