Damian Lillard is no ordinary basketball star. The Portland Trailblazers point guard, who has been ranked as one of the NBA’s Top 10 players, recently released his debut album, The Letter O, under the name Dame D.O.L.L.A.
Fans and Hip-Hop critics alike have been eagerly anticipating an album release from Lillard for some time. He first enticed listeners with his lyrical aptitude on SoundCloud, releasing a number of singles. Yet there were reservations about his album considering previous vanity projects by other sports figures that were less than impressive. Damian has been able to reveal his talent off-court, thoughtfully expressing the reality of his life through his lyrics which are, surprisingly, quite relatable. The album features a stirring collection of major hitters in music, including Raphael Saadiq, Marsha Ambrosius, Juvenile, Jamie Foxx, Lil’ Wayne and Adrian Marcel. Lillard has proven to be a notable contender and, some say, one of the most promising rappers among many popular Hip-Hop acts in modernity.
Damian Lillard further solidified his legitimacy as a rapper when he performed a freestyle on Sway in the Morning over Jay Z’s track, “Dead Presidents.” Impressed, Sway gave him his stamp of approval. It appears that Damian is on a mission to not just dominate the court but to become a reputable force in music as well. Let’s see if his rapping prowess can rival his sports acumen.
The Letter O is available on Apple Music, Spotify and iTunes.
