For over two decades San Diego based M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records has produced music that feeds the soul and empowers lives. The indie label made its debut in 1995 releasing life-changing Urban and Contemporary Gospel music by primarily West Coast recording artists.
Since its launch, M.A.N.D.A.T.E. (Making A Necessary Difference At The End) has expanded its repertoire to include Christian Hip-Hop, Smooth Jazz and Soul from a fresh crop of artists making waves in the music industry, ushering in a new era for the label.
The M.A.N.D.A.T.E. roster consists of seven unique talents: Urban Contemporary Gospel artists Chris White and Evangel, Urban Praise and Worship artist Archie Robinson, Traditional Gospel quartet style singing group Men 4 Christ, Christian Hip Hop artist Dontae, Smooth Jazz saxophonist Reggie Codrington, and Soul/Pop artist Marz JukeBox.
Each artist has a unique testimony. President and CEO of M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records, Leonard J. Thompson III said, “I look to sign artists that produce outstanding music and have a powerful life story that comes through in their music and connects with an audience.”
Putting out good music across genres to reach a diverse group of music lovers is what drives M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records. This summer was a most memorable one for artists Dontae, Chris White and Reggie Codrington. It expounded their craft, ministry and their home label.
Ex-Crip (former gangbanger) turned Christian Hip Hop artist and unapologetic witness for Jesus Christ, Dontae toured with the national Christian Hip Hop The King Tour. He also dropped the gritty trap song featuring fellow popular Christian Hip Hop artist Bizzle, “Long Time.” The accompanying video, of the man who pulls no punches as it relates to his faith, received 100,000 views after it premiered August 8th on the Christian Hip Hop site Rapzilla.com. To date it boasts nearly 200,000 views across websites internationally.
Chris White’s debut dance-single “New Life,” was digitally released in late June. It was immediately picked up and spun by DJs across the nation and is currently being played internationally. Thompson describes White’s music as, “reminiscent of Charlie Wilson’s vocal style with a Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) twist. And when we release Chris White’s EP, listeners will enjoy his broad range of musical styles in gospel.”
Capturing music fans’ tastes for relaxing, laid-backcool music is M.A.N.D.A.T.E.’s resident Smooth Jazz artist Reggie Codrington. He released his eleventh project, Against The Odds on August 11. The album is a reflection of his life experiences in the everchanging music industry. Against The Odds made it to iTunes new releases page.
M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records promises to deliver more of the best in life empowering music in the fourth quarter with new releases by Marz JukeBox, Archie Robinson and the first lady of M.A.N.D.A.T.E., Evangel.
