Indie Label/Music Group Creating Much Buzz with Recording Acts J Jordan, Cicely O’Kain and B Work
Big Top Entertainment LLC (BTE) is an American recording, production, and distribution company founded by CEO Curtis “Marv” Johnson in early 2002. Their roster currently consists of Billboard charted acts Jordan Johnson aka J Jordan and King James III formerly Christ Gang. They have recently signed California Hip-Hop sensation Brandon Workinger aka B Work and are providing distribution services for Colorado songstress Cicely O’kain’s hit single “Self-Letter.” BTE’s production team headed by Marv has written, produced, and collaborated with many Grammy-nominated writers and producers and has music cues featured on network television, cable, and film projects.
After being introduced to Marv in 2003, Jay Johnson, COO of Big Top Entertainment LLC recalls his memories of that time. “I was looking for a producer who had a certain sound and I couldn’t find it. Marv was the first producer that I met that made music that I liked. I knew he had something unique because he just didn’t produce one genre of music. He didn’t just make beats, he made songs,” states Jay. Combining Marv’s business relationships and production savvy with Jay’s experience developing and managing acts, BTE was poised to be the premier label of the Midwest. Plus, Jay knew a thing or two about music. He has successfully developed a group that was signed to Alpha International Records and had writer credits on Michael Jordan’s successful “Be Like Mike” record.
BTE would spend the next four years shopping, producing, and developing music for artist films and television before their next big opportunity. Marv came to LA to meet with then ASCAP’s VP of Urban Music, Alonzo Robinson. Alonzo was very influential in the urban music game and was “the guy” when it came to connecting artists with publishers. After numerous meetings and collaborations, the one relationship that would forever change the direction of BTE was with music manager Bobby Robinson. “I had never heard production like what these guys were doing. They were very professional and I immediately bought in and aligned with their vision,” stated Bobby, President of Miracle Entertainment LLC, who would ultimately end up funding BTE. It was Bobby’s tenacity that led to Marv producing the trailer for MTV’s # 1 rated reality show, Making The Band. After securing distribution with Music Business Association distributor of the year Redeye Worldwide, BTE was poised and ready for “go mode”!
Jordan Johnson aka J Jordan
Jordan was signed to BTE in 2008 at the age of 12. His first release “Limelight” was a promotional single which debuted on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts at position # 94. Since then, Jordan has toured with Mindless Behavior and Jacob Latimore on the “#1 Girl Tour” performing at stadiums across the country. He has been featured on the cover of Amalgamation Magazine and designed shoes for Brand Jordan, Converse and Kanye West. In 2013, Jordan released his most anticipated record to date, “You Can’t Stop Me” featuring LA rapper Problem. Jordan is currently in the studio working on new material for 2015. twitter.com/jjordan_yungj
Cicely is an actress, singer, and songwriter from Denver, Colorado. A little known fact is that she is the daughter of comedian Arnez J from BET’s Comic View. Cicely performed on the local scene for quite some time before meeting up with BTE producer Marv. She then began working on her current single “Self Letter” and is releasing the song through Redeye Worldwide via BTE. “Self-Letter” is an empowering song for women across the country. It promotes strong, confident women and their efforts and is sure to be a female anthem. Cicely O’kain Music plans on hitting radio with “Self Letter” this summer, so look forward to hearing more. twitter.com/cicelyokain
Brandon Workinger aka B Work
B Work is BTE’s latest signed act. Originally from New Park, California, 19 year-old B Work has been putting in his time in the studio. His current single, “Hero,” produced by Marv is a song about overcoming life’s tragedies. The song was so impactful that Yellowribbon.org, a non-profit dedicated to teenage suicide, partnered with BTE to promote the record. B Work is also working on his upcoming summer series mixtape, Still Working. twitter.com/bworkwework
