Holding Company Buys Power 106, Los Angeles

When stuck in traffic on the 405 freeway in the heart of Los Angeles, Power 106 – Where Hip-Hop Lives – has entertained millions of listeners for more than a generation.  DJ’s the likes of DJ Fell and DJ Precise, have been providing listeners with the best of Hip-Hop, and parts R&B.

Emmis Communications, owner of Power 106, has sold the station to the Meruelo Group for $83 million.

“Power 106 has been part of the Emmis family for more than 32 years, so this day is bittersweet, but I am confident that the station and our team are in good hands,” said Jeff Smulyan, Chairman and CEO of Emmis Communications.

Several years back, the Meruelo Group bought old-school Hip-Hop station K-DAY–with its regular playlist consisting of classics by Dr. Dre, Gang Starr, Ice Cube, and Jay-Z, to name a few.
