Ohio native and Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter, J. Hoard, is truly an artist on the rise. In 2015, he released his 4-track debut EP titled, Feel Good, an atmospheric and dreamy soundscape with elements of Gospel, R&B/Soul and Jazz. The EP offers introspective lyrics that evoke observations and questions of the spiritual connectedness within humanity and beyond. J. Hoard’s musicality, combined with his warm acrobatic vocals – that can jump from calm to vibrate in an instant – congeal to create a solid debut that is worth listening to. Additionally, J. Hoard has shared bills with prolific and accomplished artists such as Pharoahe Monch, Bilal, Sonnymoon, The Stepkids, and Kimbra.
During Grammy week 2016, J. Hourd’s single, “Sirens,” premiered on Okayplayer and was featured on Noisey Radio, a Beats1 Apple Music Station. The track’s radio-friendly vibe showcases J. Hourd’s vocal agility, and provides the ideal feel-good mood conjuring imagery of sunshine and warm days. During the aforementioned week, J. Hoard won two Grammy awards for his songwriting collaboration with Chance the Rapper on his hit, “No Problem.” A personal favorite from the artist, “Tidal Wave,” featuring Rabbi Darkside (found at www.soundcloud.com/jhoard/tidalwave), is another melodic, warm and moving tune. Sonically mimicking the ebb and flow of ocean waves, the music has a pattern of speeding up and slowing down. Its organic nature crafts a satisfying “chill” song.
